In keeping with our 3P theme, we’ve decided a winter event isn’t enough. Dubbed a “Pedal, Paddle, Peak” our Backcountry 3P (BC3P) challenges participants to bike, paddle, and hike/trail run through some of the most gorgeous backcountry terrain that a town could ever want. And we want to celebrate that! We’ve put together a great course involving gravel riding, pond hopping, and peak bagging – we think you’ll love it.
We launched the first BC3P in the Fall of 2024 and look forward to an even bigger and better 2025 race. Cap off your warm-weather season while taking advantage of the great shape you’re in at the end of summer and join in on the fun of the BC3P!
Welcome to the second Saranac Lake 3P Backcountry event! We are hosting an event that goes through the Saranac Lake Wild Forest. As such this is a backcountry event and requires that all participants be self sufficient and fully capable of taking on the event by themselves without outside assistance.
The course is approximately 27 miles long with a 2 mile neutral start and 2 mile neutral finish for a total length of 31 miles. There are five segments for solo participants that make up our Pedal, Peak, Paddle. Teams of three have each person do one style.
The event begins and ends with a neutral, untimed segment of two miles on the Adirondack Rail Trail from Charlie’s Inn until the starting line just past Conley Rd. Participants will be released in waves to spread people out. Your time starts and ends at the race start/finish line.
Pedal- Bike 10 miles from start at Conley Road on the Adirondack Rail Trail to Floodwood Rd. Continue west on Floodwood Rd until you make a left turn to the Boy Scout entrance. Bikes are parked here.
Peak – Run or hike 3 miles total on the road and then the trail up to the peak of Floodwood Mountain and back.
Pedal- Bike 3 miles backtracking along Floodwood Road to Floodwood Outpost.
Paddle – 4 miles starting at Floodwood to Rollins Pond where you circle around the islands and return. Downstream paddles and upstream uses the portage between Floodwood and Rollins Ponds.
Pedal- 8 miles return along the Adirondack Rail Trail back to the start/finish line.
Then continue back to Charlie’s Inn for the after party! All people who register for the race will get a meal.
You can see an interactive map here.
Just like our winter time SL3P that shows off the amazing front-country recreation directly in the village of Saranac Lake, we envision this event as highlighting the incredible backcountry assets during a beautiful fall season. Being in the backcountry, this event follows the Leave No Trace ethics
