Dmitry’s Feast of the Peaks Food Truck and Music Festival

Seldom does a day go by when someone doesn’t mention the name of the late Dmitry Feld. The former USA Luge marketing manager devoted his professional life to that sport, and his volunteer life to benefiting the community’s children through the Thomas Shipman Youth Center in Lake Placid.



Feld, who passed in January 2024 at the age of 68, created and managed a three-day food, music and fun festival to raise money for the youth center on Cummings Road. It dated back some 15 years.



Since then, the event has become a one-day annual fundraiser packed with excitement and good times in the names of Feld and Tom Shipman, a former Lake Placid police officer who created the center. He, too, left the community much too soon.



This year, Dmitry’s Feast of the Peaks Food Truck and Music Festival will be held on August 8 at the North Elba Show Grounds on Rt. 73. Admission is free, but donations will be gratefully accepted at the gate.



There will be a lineup of activities that would be applauded by both individuals. The feast runs from 10 AM to 3 PM, with live, local entertainment from 11 AM to 3 PM.

With tunes in the backdrop, patrons of all ages can enjoy the USA Luge experience, face painting by Sue, balloon animals by Scott, also known as Santa Claus.



Luna the Lizard Lady is back for another appearance with Tony, the two-toed sloth. There will be carnival-style games, too, and inflatables for the youngsters.



Festival goers will have access to over 50 vendors and more than five food trucks, as per Dmitry’s legacy. Common Roots Brewery will sell alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, while ice cream will be offered by Stewart’s Shops.



A Dmitry favorite – the 50/50 raffle – returns with tickets priced at $5 each or five for $20.



And of course, the day’s proceeds from Dmitry’s Feast of the Peaks Food Truck and Music Festival benefit the Thomas Shipman Youth Center. Dmitry and Tom made certain of that many years ago
