Lake Placid American Legion Memorial Day Ceremony

Monday, May 25, 2026

Time
9:30 AM - 12:00 PM
Venue
Adirondack Community Church , Lake Placid , NY, 12946

The Lake Placid American Legion Post 326 will observe Memorial Day on Monday, May 25, 2026, by lowering and raising flags in honor of local veterans who are no longer with us — those who honorably and unselfishly served and made the ultimate sacrifice for our country so that we may enjoy our freedoms as Americans.

The Legion will host a Memorial Day Parade, a closing ceremony, and a luncheon at the American Legion home on Main Street.

Seven flags that have been flying since Veterans Day 2025 will be retired, and seven new flags will be raised and flown until Veterans Day 2026. The retired flags will be presented to family members in attendance. A wreath will be placed at the Legion’s Memorial Monument by the American Legion Auxiliary.

In addition, members of the Legion will place flags on veterans’ graves on Saturday, May 23, at all local cemeteries in Lake Placid.

The ceremonies will begin on Monday, May 25, at 9:30 a.m. at the Adirondack Community Church and the World War I Memorial, where a flag honoring Daniel Lundin will be lowered and a flag honoring Philip Perkins will be raised.

At 9:50 a.m., a ceremony will be held at Elderwood of Lake Placid, where a flag honoring Bruce Colon will be lowered and a flag honoring Stephen Lamman will be raised.

At 10:00 a.m., a ceremony will be held at Adirondack Health Lake Placid, where a flag honoring Frederick Reid will be lowered and a flag honoring Ruben Lennart Folin will be raised.

At 10:10 a.m., a flag will be lowered at North Elba Cemetery, and a new flag will be raised in honor of all veterans interred at the cemetery.

At 11:00 a.m., the Memorial Day Parade will begin at the intersection of Main Street and Saranac Avenue and proceed down Main Street to the American Legion home.

Following the parade, a closing ceremony will be held at the Legion home, where flags will be lowered in honor of Jimmy Hadjis, Favor Smith II, and Rik Cassidy. Flags will then be raised in honor of John Dutin Smith, Mike Horrock, and Mathew Barney.

The American Legion Post 326 Auxiliary will place a wreath at the Legion’s Memorial Monument in honor of all veterans. The Auxiliary and the Sons of the Legion will host a luncheon immediately following the closing ceremony.

All veterans and community members are encouraged to join the American Legion in the parade and flag ceremonies. In addition to veterans, the parade will feature the Lake Placid High School Marching Band, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Homeward Bound Veterans, and other community organizations.

The community, friends, and families are invited to attend any or all of the ceremonies, the parade, and the luncheon.
